Chintzy..

1 06 2008

I do not know how I feel about this movie, yet.  I am still digesting what the hell happened.  Indian Jones is a story that is very important to me and close to my heart, and somehow I feel like this movie was not true to the spirit of the tale.  The lines were predictable and cheesy, andthe action was unbelievable.  Indy survives a nuclear blast in a refridgerator?  At 60?  The whole point of Indiana Jones was that he wasn’t a superhero, he got hurt.  But in this movie, he performs feats of super human abililty, and never gets a scratch on him.

The Spielberg/Lucus mega duo used to be a powerful combination that would ensure an amazing cinamatic journey.  I say USED TO.  I really feel like they both have reached their creative ends, and for this movie, it has very evident.  This movie should have been made 15 years ago, if made at all.  OR, it should have been a remake with a different actor, like they are doing with all the biggest 70s and 80s movies, like Star Wars, Superman, and Batman.  Hell, let my baby Shia be Indy.   The S/L team really just took every idea from every movie they ever had, and combined them into one Indiana Jones movie.  Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, etc.  Such big named and talent actors, and I feel like this movie degrades their credibility as actors.  Sorry, guys.

Playing catch-up!

28 04 2008

So, my online existence has not really been very visable, has it?  Well, lets see… What has been happening?

–I quit my job.

–I got a new job, Yay!

–My ipod died.

–Mai parhnaa Hindi hoon.  (I am studying Hindi)

–I have been attending a wealth of Yelp events.

– Had 3 celebrity sightings (Ghostface Killah from Wu-tang, A member of Cornershop, and CRAIG T.NELSON)

–I am seeing Eddie Izzard on Wednesday!!

–I am seeing Amanda and Nanny and Granddad in May.

Yeah, that is about everything.  I see and think things everyday that I want to blog about, but time doesn’t really allow for it.  I have moved my computer out of my bedroom, in an effort to get more work done, but so far it really doesn’t help.  I am also really far behind on my reviews for Yelp.

I am alive, though!  My new job is 1000 times better than my old one, and actually interesting

This picture should keep you tided over until my next blog revelation.  It is my husband (Hrithik Roshan) on the cover of India Vogue:

EPIC

28 02 2008

Two posts in one day, woah!

This is EPIC! You know that I am totally going to be practicing these moves and breaking them out! I freaking miss Europe and its club scene…

Jodhaa Akbar

19 02 2008

So, I went to see Jodhaa Akbar on Sunday, finally.  A combination of history and Bollywood, I love it!  The movie was very long, even by Bollywood standards, but 3 hours of Hrithik Roshan, and it seemed like 3 minutes.  I have a new favourite song, as well.  I can’t find the video from the movie, but here is the song with scenes from the movie.

The song is called “Khwaja Mere Khwaja” which I THINK roughly means “O Saint Khwaja”??  I had to look up the translations as it is in Urdu and Arabic.  What do you all think?

So sad about Heath Ledger… :(

So much to doooooooo!

4 01 2008

l.jpegYeah, I suck at this blogging thing. But, it was Christmas, and Chewie was here, and I have been having a helluva good time! So there.

So, to sum up my absence: Chewie arrived, yay, spent time with grandrents, went skiing, Orin and Chewie met each other, had Christmas and made out like a bandit, flew home, shared Boston with my best friend, at Malaysian and Indian food, shopped, Bhutto assassinated and thought of my Pakistani friends, worried about Shyam due to all the bad news coming out of Kenya and no news from him, finished my first scarf, played Kingdom Hearts on Ps2, heard from Shyam, said goodbye to my best friend and cried, experienced the coldest day I have ever had, and watched Obama win Iowa! Woot!

It was great having Chewie here, and it was even more heartbreaking watching her leave. I don’t know when I will be able to see her again. She is my best friend and sometimes, I feel lost without having her to talk to.

So, yeah, I made a green scarf out of crochet, and I sent Chewie home with it. It didn’t turn out too bad, but man, crocheting is addictive.

Yay for stream-of-consciousness entries!

I am reading The Geographer’s Library and it sucks… but I can’t stop reading it, because I paid for it and I feel like I have to finish it.

Pakistan…scary….

Kenya… scarier…. I miss Shyam and Sheila, and I am praying for their safety and their families’ every night.

Obama! Obama! Obama! I may feel differently about him when it comes time to vote, but right now, he is the candidate that least repels me. Although, I am a little nervous about his views on Pakistan.

Today was WICKED COLD! It was 5 degrees fahrenheit today when I went to the gym… AT 11:30 am! It is that cold that steals your breath. My apartment has been frigid, so I have spent most of the day in bed with my robe wrapped around me. Summer… Please!

Okie, I am going to bed. Night.

Presidential Trivia

19 11 2007

pbrd0070.jpg Those of you who know me well, know that I have a distinct penchant for trivia, especially trivia about 90s music, Indian movies, and presidents. I love trivia so much, that I even subscribe to a magazine devoted to nothing but the learn of obscure and irreverent facts. So I felt the need to share, when mental_floss had an article on President Franklin Pierce. I bet you didn’t even know he was a president! Don’t ever try to play me in Trivial Pursuit!

Five Amazing Facts About Franklin Pierce (in honor of his 203rd birthday)

Take Me Out to the Ballgame

6 10 2007

So, I am in Boston for a few days for an interview.  Tonight is a big baseball game between Los Angeles Angels and the Boston Red Sox.  I was down in the bar having a drink and the game was on.  The bar was wild!  I went up to my room and switched it on, and as I looked out my window and I could see the glow of Fenway Park!  It was pretty neat.  At this moment, there is a large blimp circling over the game.

More about my Boston trip soon!

End Day

2 08 2007

sign13981.jpg   I have sufficiently freaked myself out. BBC Horizons did a documentary called End Day on different catastrophes and their impact on the earth, if they were ever to happen. There was a tsunami, a volcano, meteorite, virus epidemic, and a science-created black hole. The tsunami was unnerving, because they showed what would happen, and where it would happen. The East Coast of the US seemed to be a prime target. The meteorite was pretty significant, as well. If you ever get a chance to see this documentary, watch it. I didn’t move for the whole hour!

I think the trailer tells the story a little better than I would. So here

I would be lying if I didn’t say that I keep locking up at the sky to keep my eyes out for waves/meteors/mega storms/volcanoes/people dying outside my window.

Unfortunately, my window doesn’t face towards the Bay, so if a wave was coming, my back would be to it right now…

Quick 411

31 07 2007

So, this morning when I got to the library and sat down at my regular computer, this is what greeted me on my start-up homepage:

BBC World News Top Stories:

Cannabis ‘worse than tobacco’

Somali gunmen attack Ethiopians

Spears and Federline now divorced

That is really depressing. I tend to respect BBC news, but lately it only sends me news updates on celebrities and reality TV. I do not care that Britney Spears and her husband are divorced, that Paris did something, or Lindsay Lohan. Why does the world taunt me?!?!?! *Please note fake dramatics* Do I have to throw a spoiled-rich girl fit in a similar vein to these ladies to get noticed and get my message across? I want to know about the Somalis, and even the article on cannabis was interesting. Sometimes, I swear, my brain feels like it is oozing out of my ears. My kingdom for intellectual stimulation!

/end rant

So, how is your day going? :)
