Happy Birthday, America

5 07 2008

What a gloomy birthday for the US.  Rainy and dark, and such a low pressure system over the whole city, that when the fireworks went off they just hung in the air like a beaten pinata.  We went to watch from my friend S’s house, and she had arguebly one of the best views in the city.  She lives on the Cambridge side of the Charles, and we were only a quarter of a mile down from where they were setting them off.  She had a gorgous rooftop view of the whole city, with the Hancock building and the Pru perfectly outlined.

The only downside to our view, was that the air was so heavy, that soon enough, we were unable to view the fireworks.  The smoke from the fireworks would not disapate and would obscure the light show.  Very unfortunate.

It was still a beautiful show, and not too bad for my first 4th of July, back home.  Happy Birthday, baby!

Chintzy..

1 06 2008

I do not know how I feel about this movie, yet.  I am still digesting what the hell happened.  Indian Jones is a story that is very important to me and close to my heart, and somehow I feel like this movie was not true to the spirit of the tale.  The lines were predictable and cheesy, andthe action was unbelievable.  Indy survives a nuclear blast in a refridgerator?  At 60?  The whole point of Indiana Jones was that he wasn’t a superhero, he got hurt.  But in this movie, he performs feats of super human abililty, and never gets a scratch on him.

The Spielberg/Lucus mega duo used to be a powerful combination that would ensure an amazing cinamatic journey.  I say USED TO.  I really feel like they both have reached their creative ends, and for this movie, it has very evident.  This movie should have been made 15 years ago, if made at all.  OR, it should have been a remake with a different actor, like they are doing with all the biggest 70s and 80s movies, like Star Wars, Superman, and Batman.  Hell, let my baby Shia be Indy.   The S/L team really just took every idea from every movie they ever had, and combined them into one Indiana Jones movie.  Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, etc.  Such big named and talent actors, and I feel like this movie degrades their credibility as actors.  Sorry, guys.

Playing catch-up!

28 04 2008

So, my online existence has not really been very visable, has it?  Well, lets see… What has been happening?

–I quit my job.

–I got a new job, Yay!

–My ipod died.

–Mai parhnaa Hindi hoon.  (I am studying Hindi)

–I have been attending a wealth of Yelp events.

– Had 3 celebrity sightings (Ghostface Killah from Wu-tang, A member of Cornershop, and CRAIG T.NELSON)

–I am seeing Eddie Izzard on Wednesday!!

–I am seeing Amanda and Nanny and Granddad in May.

Yeah, that is about everything.  I see and think things everyday that I want to blog about, but time doesn’t really allow for it.  I have moved my computer out of my bedroom, in an effort to get more work done, but so far it really doesn’t help.  I am also really far behind on my reviews for Yelp.

I am alive, though!  My new job is 1000 times better than my old one, and actually interesting

This picture should keep you tided over until my next blog revelation.  It is my husband (Hrithik Roshan) on the cover of India Vogue:

When the Weeping Comes

17 04 2008

When the Weeping Comes

I want to weep/ weep long, hard sobs/ that rack my body and fog my brain.

Weep for the loneliness of us/ the loss of supreme love/ weep for the seven years of misfortune which is foretold.

Weep at the passage of time/ at my fear and terror of it/ of its increasing speed.

I want to weep for my lost spiritualism/ of the faith that I was denied/ weep for the God I pray to/ who I fear shuns me.

When that weeping comes/I hope it comes in a big, heavy tears/ thick down my face/ so that you can’t distinguish individuals.

Tears that wash the guilt/the regret/the loss from my tired body/ and empty me of this pain.

I want to weep/ weep the pain away/ if I could only remember how.

Holy Freaking Crap! It’s cold!

I can’t feel my face, hands, or anything else for that matter!

It was so windy and cold today. The only thing that made it even barely tolerable was the fact that as soon as I stepped out of my door today, I caught my train. I didn’t have to stand out in it! Yay!

So..weather, work, thats my life. Here is a video from my new favourite band! Yay, Kit! I am now their newest groupie/hanger on!

I am WiFi-ing it up today at my new hangout spot, Athan’s Bakery in Brighton.

Mental_Floss had a recent article on its blog about what certain biblical stories would look like from above if they had been captured by Google Earth.

This is a picture of the crucifixion, and what the artist believed it would look like:

Its very, very eerie. Here is the link to the rest of the entry and the images. They also include the Garden of Eden, Noah’s Ark, and the Parting of the Red Sea:

Seven-Alarm Fire

21 01 2008

1200924324_7636.jpgBoston has a lot of shootings and a lot of fires. Last night in Lawrence (ok, not technically Boston), an abandon nightclub was set on fire and it spread to the surrounding fourteen buildings. Since I have moved to Massachusetts, there have been fires in Everett, and Dorchester, and in South Boston. What I found most astonishing were the photos of the blaze. The firefighters were covered in ice, because it was so cold, but yet the fire continued to blaze. This photos were taken from the Boston Globe.

Lazy bum-ness

20 01 2008

So, I did absolutely nothing today. Yesterday, my cousin Abby came into town with her fiance, who is from Boston, and we went out with some of his friends. I had a pretty good time, and I discovered some new places around Harvard Square. Going out with Abby and Dan is always a good time. The last time I had seen Abby, was at one of my other cousin’s wedding, and we had quite a good time in the hotel bar the night before the ceremony. I was quite ill the next day, and embarrassed! Last night, however, was free of ruckus.

I had ONE Amaretto and I felt like crap, today. I think I just get a hangover, anymore, by just looking at liquor, which is kind of sad. I used to be able to hold my own. So today, I didn’t even get out photo-61.jpgof bed until two, and opted to stay and watch five episodes of The West Wing. I made my bed and made some pasta salad to eat later in the week! Yay, me! I was going to go to church this morning, but since I had such a raging headache that couldn’t be cured by drugs, I didn’t make it. Which is sad, because the church I have found in Roxbury is a really nice one to attend.

So, here’s a picture of me all wrapped out and getting ready to go out. It was 20F last night!

Do jeh

17 01 2008

Means ‘Thank You’ in Cantonese, as I have learned from my amazingly multilingual best-friend forever, Chewie.

So, I have also learned that Boston’s Chinatown is the 3rd Largest Chinatown in the US, which is saying something since it seems like 50% of the population of the US is Asian. (My made up statistic!)

I love Chinatown, and Chewie and I went there to look for Char Sui Boa (pork pieces in a bun, and yes I am vegetarian, just weak once and awhile) and rambutans.

See, Chewie? This is a sign you should move here and move in with me!
