Chintzy..

1 06 2008

I do not know how I feel about this movie, yet.  I am still digesting what the hell happened.  Indian Jones is a story that is very important to me and close to my heart, and somehow I feel like this movie was not true to the spirit of the tale.  The lines were predictable and cheesy, andthe action was unbelievable.  Indy survives a nuclear blast in a refridgerator?  At 60?  The whole point of Indiana Jones was that he wasn’t a superhero, he got hurt.  But in this movie, he performs feats of super human abililty, and never gets a scratch on him.

The Spielberg/Lucus mega duo used to be a powerful combination that would ensure an amazing cinamatic journey.  I say USED TO.  I really feel like they both have reached their creative ends, and for this movie, it has very evident.  This movie should have been made 15 years ago, if made at all.  OR, it should have been a remake with a different actor, like they are doing with all the biggest 70s and 80s movies, like Star Wars, Superman, and Batman.  Hell, let my baby Shia be Indy.   The S/L team really just took every idea from every movie they ever had, and combined them into one Indiana Jones movie.  Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, etc.  Such big named and talent actors, and I feel like this movie degrades their credibility as actors.  Sorry, guys.

Jodhaa Akbar

19 02 2008

So, I went to see Jodhaa Akbar on Sunday, finally.  A combination of history and Bollywood, I love it!  The movie was very long, even by Bollywood standards, but 3 hours of Hrithik Roshan, and it seemed like 3 minutes.  I have a new favourite song, as well.  I can’t find the video from the movie, but here is the song with scenes from the movie.

The song is called “Khwaja Mere Khwaja” which I THINK roughly means “O Saint Khwaja”??  I had to look up the translations as it is in Urdu and Arabic.  What do you all think?

They say its your Birthday!….

24 01 2008

When I get old, and losing my hair,

Many years from now!

Will you still be sending me a valentine, birthday greetings, bottle of wine?

If I’d been out to quarter to three,

Would you lock the door?

Will you still need me?  Will you still feed me?

When I’m  *twenty four!*

——————————————————–

Ok, so I modifed the Beatles song, but its true!  Its my ‘burday’.  Or my ‘birfday’, however you want to say it.  I am the big *2* *4*.  I was really apprehensive about spending my birthday alone in Boston, especially because last year was so amazing!  But, this year is shaping up to be quite great, as well!

Last night, I went out to a Yelp Event and met up with a bunch of people at the Vegan/Vegetarian bar called the Otherside Cafe.  Being the cheapy and skint that I am, I only spent four dollars the whole night,photo-73.jpg on Moroccan tea!   Around 930, Shyam and Sheila called to wish me a happy birthday, and the group I was with overheard, and they got me a cheesecake and sang to me!  It was seriously awesome to be sung happy birthday to by a group of strangers!  :)

Tonight, a friend from this group and I are going out to see There Will Be Blood which I am quite excited about since I have wanted to see it for awhile.  Such a heavy movie for a birthday day, but whatever.

Lets see, what else is going on this weekend?  Tomorrow, I am going to a Crafters Event up in Somerville.  A bunch of girls are getting together and we are going to knit and crochet in a cafe and hangout.  I can finally finish that scarf for a certain someone! :)

Then this weekend, I am going on a bar crawl with these same people from last night! Yay, I get to dress up and dance!

Thats about it, homez.  I gotta go to the gym now tho!

(A picture of me on my birthday celebration!)

Atonement

8 09 2007

I am still alive. I promise. No, I am not still reading those books, and I will change them soon. Many new stories are on the way about Malaysia, and I have them all written down in my paper journal. I just need time to transfer them here. My dissertation is written, but not edited fully, and I have begun to pack. I have less than a week left in my room, and only a little over a week left in Cardiff. But that is another post.

I just got back from seeing Atonement. Wow. I hate Keira Knightly, but I must say, she was excellent. James McAvoy, or whatever his name is, is exactly the kind of British boy I have been looking for in my two years here. I read the book when I was 16 or 17, and I cried for a full two hours. Now that I have seen the movie, I don’t think I fully comprehended the book at that age. The movie made it better for me, which is something that doesn’t happen very often with visualized novels.

I knew how the movie ended and I was still gutted with how sad it was for all the main characters. I have been told I am an extremely intense and passionate person, and they have taken all that in me and put it into a movie. I was overwhelmed. Breathing was something I had to remember to do. The sex scene in the library was the hottest scene I have ever seen, and you never actually see anything. I am aware that I am rambling, but I can’t get this movie out of my head.

I must ponder this a little more. Maybe I will delete this post tomorrow and rewrite it when I am a little more controlled in my thoughts.

Goodnight.

End Day

2 08 2007

sign13981.jpg   I have sufficiently freaked myself out. BBC Horizons did a documentary called End Day on different catastrophes and their impact on the earth, if they were ever to happen. There was a tsunami, a volcano, meteorite, virus epidemic, and a science-created black hole. The tsunami was unnerving, because they showed what would happen, and where it would happen. The East Coast of the US seemed to be a prime target. The meteorite was pretty significant, as well. If you ever get a chance to see this documentary, watch it. I didn’t move for the whole hour!

I think the trailer tells the story a little better than I would. So here

I would be lying if I didn’t say that I keep locking up at the sky to keep my eyes out for waves/meteors/mega storms/volcanoes/people dying outside my window.

Unfortunately, my window doesn’t face towards the Bay, so if a wave was coming, my back would be to it right now…

The Simpsons! (With appropriate theme tune)

29 07 2007

So, I saw The Simpsons Movie (sic) last night. It was quite enjoyable, and the four of us (Brian, Britton, Joel, and I) we were certainly the loudest people laughing in the cinema. There is something about seeing the Simpsons with three men ranging in age from 24 to 26. They are all reduced to eight years old. There were quite a number of people there, Read the rest of this entry »

Movies set in Boston

I am really procrastinating today. I have gotten 1200 words done, which is good for one day, but not good enough for me! But, I have also located Read the rest of this entry »

Wicked!

26 07 2007

The trailer for the new Beowulf movie is up! I am very excited about this movie, and I hope it does an accurate job with one of my favorite stories.

When I was in middle school, our library had a book sale and I got an old copy of Beowulf for $.50. I bought it because it had a neat cover that was black with the words Beowulf and a dragon drawn on it in a funky Gothic script. The letters, however, were coloured in like some 1960s pop art, and it was like Anglo-Saxon literature on LSD! I was only ten but I forced myself to read it, and I scared the crap out of myself. I mean there is a monster (and his mother) who rip people to shreds, and the main character dies while slaying a dragon! Its heavy stuff for a ten-year old. I have read it many times in recent years, and it seems to be a favorite with British Literature classes.

Anyways, the movie looks good. Here is the trailer:

Beowulf: I know where I will be on November 16th.
